Hello, Reader!
My name is Lacy Hess and I am on a journey to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a published author. Ever since I began learning to read at the age of 6, I knew that I wanted to create my own stories that would, one day, give someone else the same sense of wonder I felt every time I turned the pages of a new book. It was the kind of “knowing” that came from deep in my core and I swore to myself that I would have books with my own name on my shelf when I grew up.
I conceived the idea for my debut novel when I was 13 years old (though I’d been writing short stories for years) after the Fellowship of the Ring first hit theaters. I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings prior to seeing the movie, and found myself enamored by J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous series. I was utterly hooked on fantasy and knew it was the primary genre in which I would write. I binged every fantasy book I could get my hands on and came up with the framework for my first book within a few months.
I worked on my story whenever I could during my teen years, attempting to figure out story structure on my own, but I never quite finished the book. Once I was an adult, things always seemed to get in the way of writing and I had numerous computer crashes where I lost months worth of work. (I had multiple backups across devices and everything seemed to disappear at once.) I was exhausted from perpetually trying to gain traction and, eventually, my writing took a backseat to the rest of life.
In December of 2017, I came across a YouTube video by Jenna Moreci and her pull-no-punches writing advice inspired me to push through the obstacles and take another look at the pieces I’d managed to save. With further advice and motivation from the rest of the AuthorTube community on YouTube, I began diligently chipping away at my manuscript every chance I got and I was so excited to see my vision finally taking real shape.
I had originally intended to be published by July of 2020, but the pandemic situation threw another wrench into my plans and I had to set my work aside more often than not because of all the adjustments that came from businesses and schools closing down. Then, between the summers of 2021 and 2024, I had a long-term health issue that got worse and slowed down my progress to a snail’s pace. I’ve since recovered, thankfully, but those 4+ years were hard to get through because I so desperately wanted my book to be finished and out in the world.
Now that my health is improved, life is much more conducive to writing and I hope to publish the first book of my debut series towards the end of 2025. I still have a few plot knots to untangle, beta feedback to get, and polishing to do, but I’m excited to be back on track. I can’t wait to be able to share my story with you!
Thank you for your interest in my journey and/or my future books! I hope that you’ll take a moment to check out my website and, perhaps, join me on social media. I’m most active on Instagram and I’d love it if you left a comment on how you discovered me and my website!
I hope you have an amazing day!
