Sarra Cannon
To all the aspiring authors out there, this week’s featured video is all about editing your rough draft!
I love Sarra Cannon’s videos because she manages to be informative, motivational, relatable, and inspirational in the way that she shares her ideas. She reminds me that it’s okay to take the time I need to do my story justice, and that the journey is just as important as the destination. (Something I know but of which I often lose sight.) Her tips are thoughtfully presented in a down-to-earth way, and I often find new perspective and direction in honing my own writing methods in a way that fits my personal work style. Having edited the rough draft for my first book already, I still found the advice in this video quite useful and I will likely reference it again when it’s time to work on Book 2.
Enjoy the video! I hope it sparks an urge to start/continue writing! Check out Sarra’s YouTube channel for more motivation and writing tips!
Here’s an outlining video from one of the first AuthorTubers I ever followed!
Bethany discusses her method for plotting her books in this 40+ minute walkthrough video. (Spoiler warning: She shares the plot points for her book The Secret Gift.) She covers topics like learning to ask the right questions about your story, how to create effective conflict, making sure your characters are active participants in the story, and how to find the resolution that brings it all together.
This detailed walkthrough is perfect for anyone who wants to create a well-organized outline, with all the major plot points mapped out, before sitting down to write. Check out Bethany’s YouTube channel if you think this video is for you!
Natalia Leigh
Here’s another video for aspiring authors!
When writing a book, it is important to be able to curate your words in a way that makes the story flow seamlessly for the reader. I don’t know a single writer who hasn’t struggled with the technical aspects of writing, such as comma usage. Natalia Leigh has an amazing series of videos addressing common mistakes writers make, where she gives straightforward explanations and practical examples for how to correct them. I love that these videos are so easily digestible and often go back to reference them when I get overwhelmed in my writing and start overthinking everything.
I hope you’ll find her videos as useful as I do! Check out Natalia’s YouTube channel for more great content!
Mandi Lynn
If you’re just starting to think about writing a book, here’s a great video from Mandi Lynn on how to outline your story.
One of my biggest struggles in writing my first book was not having a proper outline when I started drafting. Through trial and error, I’ve since worked out my own process and outline that have made subsequent drafts much stronger right out of the gate, but this video would have been a godsend if I’d seen it back in the beginning. I love how easy it is to follow and I feel like newbie authors will find it a great starting point.
Give this video a watch and see if Mandi’s YouTube channel will help you in your author journey!
Jenna Moreci
Here’s one of Jenna Moreci’s early advice videos on how to stay focused on your project. If you struggle with staying on task while writing, and you enjoy more of the blunt, I-don’t-want-any-excuses kind of help, pop on over and check out this video. A word of warning before you go: Jenna does not pardon her French.
