Life is Better in Fantasy

Hello!

My name is Lacy Hess, and I am on a journey to fulfill a life-long dream of being a published author. Ever since I began learning to read at the age of 6, I knew that I wanted to create stories of my own that would, one day, give someone else the same sense of wonder I felt every time I turned the pages of a new book. It was the kind of โ€œknowingโ€ that came from deep in my core and I swore to myself that I would have books with my own name on my shelf when I grew up.

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! Come join me on my author journey!

I'm a little late in sharing my goals for the new year but I'm happy to say that I finally completed my long needed website revamp at the end of January! I had started working on a more cohesive look for the site back in October in between my writing time and other responsibilities, and I was close to having it all done at the end of 2024, but our household came down with one of those bugs that hangs around for weeks and my progress slowed to a crawl.

Goals for Q4 of 2024 Hello, Reader! Hey, yโ€™all! Iโ€™ve been away for a long time, so hereโ€™s an update on how things have been going behind the scenes for the last couple of years, along with my list of goals for Q4 of 2024. The last year was incredibly difficult and busy for me [โ€ฆ]

Finishing Developmental Edits During Camp Nano I had a single goal for the month of April. After years of restructuring my story, and months of suffering writerโ€™s block, I was determined to finally finish developmental edits for my book. Between figuring out certain health issues (and removing stress factors) and random, but numerous life emergencies, [โ€ฆ]

A Long Overdue Update Well, itโ€™s been a LONG time since my last post and Iโ€™ve got a lot to catch you up on. First of all, Iโ€™m sorry for not sharing anything yet this year. October snuck up on me and I still feel like it should be February. Iโ€™ve had a lot going [โ€ฆ]

WIP Quick Look

A young man struggles with strange dreams throughout his formative years, causing him to feel even more isolated from his peers than usual when the dreams begin to affect him during the waking hours. As he gets older, and the divide between himself and others only seems to grow, he begins to wonder if the dreams are more than just dreams.

When he loses someone he cares about, he returns to his childhood home and finally unlocks the secret thatโ€™s plagued him for years. Confronted with this new knowledge, he must decide whether heโ€™s willing to let go of all he knows and face untold dangers for the chance to be a part of something he never thought possible, or remain safely behind and face a future of solitude.

A debut novel, and the first in a New Adult Fantasy trilogy.

To all the aspiring authors out there, this weekโ€™s featured video is all about editing your rough draft!

I love Sarra Cannonโ€™s videos because she manages to be informative, motivational, relatable, and inspirational in the way that she shares her ideas. She reminds me that itโ€™s okay to take the time I need to do my story justice, and that the journey is just as important as the destination. (Something I know but of which I often lose sight.) Her tips are thoughtfully presented in a down-to-earth way, and I often find new perspective and direction in honing my own writing methods in a way that fits my personal work style. Having edited the rough draft for my first book already, I still found the advice in this video quite useful and I will likely reference it again when itโ€™s time to work on Book 2.

Enjoy the video! I hope it sparks an urge to start/continue writing! Check out Sarraโ€™s YouTube channel for more motivation and writing tips!
